In his first career start at first base filling in for the injured Miguel Cabrera, Detroit's Alex Avila leapt into the stands for an impressive grab.

A catcher by trade, after Toronto's Russell Martin sliced a pop-up into foul territory off a pitch from David Price, Avila's instincts kicked in. Tracking the ball over his left shoulder all the way into foul territory, it was clear that some of his skill behind the plate carried over.

After a long run into foul territory, Avila leapt over the railing, extended, hauled the ball in and flipped head-over-heels into the stands.

With Cabrera projected to be out for the next six weeks, odds are Avila will get the chance to make a few more of these.
