Tigers' Miguel Cabrera leaves game with calf strain
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera left Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a left calf strain. The team announced he would undergo a MRI.
Cabrera sustained the injury on the basepaths during the fourth inning. After taking off from first base on a hit-and-run attempt with Victor Martinez at the plate, Cabrera pulled up halfway toward second base and called for a trainer. Martinez’s at-bat ended up being 11 pitches, and Cabrera had attempted to execute the hit-and-run multiple times.
After Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand attended to him on the field, Cabrera exited the field with a heavy limp and was done for the night.
After the game, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he was “not optimistic he’s going to avoid the disabled list.”

Cabrera was 2 for 2 in the game with a RBI single that gave the Tigers their first run in the first inning. For the season, he is batting .350 with 15 home runs, 54 RBIs and a 1.034 OPS.
