Watch: Red Sox CF Mookie Betts injured tumbling over outfield wall
Boston Red Sox centerfielder Mookie Betts left Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning after tumbling over the Fenway Park wall attempting to rob a home run.
With Chicago leading 5–2 in the sixth, White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu came to the plate with one runner on base and two outs. Abreu hit a ball to deep right-centerfield that Betts was able to track down and catch, but his momentum carried him over the short outfield wall at Fenway Park. Betts tumbled into the Red Sox’s bullpen with control of the baseball, landing on his head/neck.
The play was initially called an out, but after a White Sox challenge, umpires ruled the play a home run since Betts dropped the ball after making contact with the wall.

Betts climbed out of the Red Sox bullpen, but left the game and was escorted into the Red Sox dugout. Rusney Castillo, who was called up from Triple A on Monday after Shane Victorino was traded to the Los Angeles Angels, replaced Betts in centerfield.

Betts was 0-for-2 in the game. In his second major-league season, he is batting .265 with 10 home runs, 48 RBIs and a .758 OPS.
