Yankees place Michael Pineda on disabled list with flexor strain

Pineda was added to the 15-day disabled list with a right flexor forearm muscle strain.

The New York Yankees have placed right-handed starting pitcher Michael Pineda on the 15-day disabled list with a right flexor forearm muscle strain.

Pineda has been scratched from Thursday night's start against the Texas Rangers.

WFAN's Mike Francesa was the first to report Pineda's scratched start.

CC Sabathia will start New York's series finale on normal rest after the team used a sixth starter in the rotation on Tuesday.

Pineda is 9-7 on the year with a 3.97 ERA and 117 strikeouts. The Yankees sit atop the American League East with a 57-43 record, six games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles.
