Mets rookie Michael Conforto hits three-run shot for first MLB homer
One day after being recalled from Triple A, New York Mets rookie Michael Conforto hit his first MLB home run on Monday against the Miami Marlins.
Conforto was called up Sunday to replace the injured Kirk Nieuwenhuis on the roster, one day after being optioned to Las Vegas to make room for new acquisition Yoenis Cespedes.
Conforto, 22, made his major-league debut earlier this month and had four hits, including two doubles, in 19 at-bats. The No. 10 pick in the 2014 draft, he is ranked as the Mets’ top hitting prospect by MLB.com.
On Monday, Conforto took a 93 mph fastball on the outer third of the plate and hit it deep to right centerfield for his first major-league homer.
The ball left the bat at 112 mph and traveled 435 feet, according to MLB’s Statcast data.
