Mets centerfielder Yoenis Cespedes uncorked an unbelievable ninth-inning throw to rob the Pirates' Sean Rodriguez of a triple.

After misreading the ball off the wall, Cespedes grabbed Rodriguez's drive as it rolled on the warning track and in one motion shifted his body, took a short crow hop and tossed a rocket of a throw to third baseman Juan Uribe. The ball reached Uribe on one long hop and he tagged Rodriguez out easily, before he reached the base.

The play kept the Pirates out of scoring position and helped New York extend the game, which was tied 3-3, into extra innings.

New York (63-53) acquired Cespedes at the trade deadline from the Detroit Tigers. In 13 games for the first-place Mets, he's hit .304 with an .816 OPS, two home runs and eight RBIs.

His contributions have extended to the defensive end, too.
