With just one week left in the regular season, the MLB playoff picture is starting to take shape. The Kansas City Royals were the first to clinch a division title, their first since 1985, with a win last night and a Twins loss.

• The Royals announced that closer Greg Holland will miss the rest of the season with a torn UCL. He likely needs Tommy John surgery, but will be examined next week by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. 

• Boston Red Sox President Dave Dombrowski promoted Assistant GM Mike Hazen to general manager. Hazen replaced former GM Ben Cherington, who left the club in August when Dombrowski was hired as team president.

• According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, tension between Orioles manager Buck Showalter and general manager Dan Duquette has reached a breaking point. “If it doesn’t change, it will be a disaster,” the report says. 

• Manny Acta has interviewed for the manager position with the Miami Marlins. MLB.com reports that the team is seeking a new manager with prior experience, which Acta has with his prior stops managing the Indians and Nationals

• The Red Sox have announced that Pablo Sandoval's illness was related to pneumonia, which could also prevent him from seeing the field again in 2015.
