Blue Jays beat Rangers 5–1 to avoid elimination

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Texas Rangers in Game 3 of the ALDS to avoid being eliminated from the MLB playoffs.

The Blue Jays avoided an early playoff exit by beating the Rangers 5–1 in Game 3 of the ALDS on Sunday night. 

Marco Estrada got the start for Toronto and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings. Texas starter Martin Perez allowed four runs on six hits in five innings. 

Toronto scored one run in both the third and fourth inning. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki widened the margin with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. 

The Jays entered the playoffs as the betting favorite to win the World Series but dropped the first two games of the ALDS to the Rangers in Toronto. 

Toronto faces another must-win situation on Monday in Game 4. R.A. Dickey takes the mound for the Blue Jays in his first career postseason start and Derek Holland will pitch for Texas.
