Mets CF Yoenis Cespedes leaves NLCS Game 4 with sore shoulder
Mets centerfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Wednesday night’s Game 4 of the NLCS against the Cubs with a sore left shoulder, the team announced.
Cespedes left the game in the second inning after striking out looking with two men on and one out. He was replaced in the bottom of the frame by Juan Lagares.
In the first inning, Cespedes took a walk and scored on Lucas Duda’s three-run home run.
Cespedes, 30, was acquired by the Mets at the trade deadline and has hit .265 with two homers and seven RBIs in nine playoff games batting cleanup. He will be a free agent after the season.
Television announcers said Cespedes was having trouble lifting the shoulder.
The Chicago Sun-Timesreported earlier Wednesday, via NBC Chicago’s Peggy Kusinski, that Cespedes played a round of golf in the morning before the game. Cespedes confirmed to reporters after the game that he played the round and said it did not cause the injury.
“I'll be fine by Sunday. If not I'll chop it off and put a new (arm) on,” said Cespedes.
