The Kansas City Royals have exercise their club options on pitcher Wade Davis and shortstop Alcides Escobar for the 2016 season, the team announced Thursday.

The World Series champions will pay All-Star closer Davis $8 million next season and AL Championship Series MVP Escobar $5.25 million.

The Royals also announced that they had declined the option on Jonny Gomes for the 2016 season, making the outfielder a free agent. The team also declined options on pitcher Jeremy Guthrie and outfielder Alex Rios on Wednesday.

Kansas City outfielder Alex Gordon turned down his $13.75 million player option for 2016 on Wednesday. The team will now make a qualifying offer to Gordon.
