Report: Discussed Jay Bruce to Jays trade appears unlikely
A trade that would have sent Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce to the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-team deal now appears unlikely, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Monday that pending medical reviews, Bruce would be traded to the Blue Jays, while Michael Saunders would be dealt to the Angels and the Reds would be granted multiple prospects.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reported late Monday, however, that doubt existed surrounding the completion of the deal before saying talks are dead “for now.” Yahoo’s Jeff Passan reports that the players in the deal had been agreed upon, however talks are on hold after an issue came up with the medicals of a player who is not Bruce.
Bruce, twice named an All Star and Silver Slugger Award recipient, is a career .248 hitter with 208 home runs and 638 RBIs in eight MLB seasons, all spent with the Reds. The 28-year-old batted .226 with 26 home runs and 87 RBIs last season.

Saunders, who played in just nine games last season with the Blue Jays due to a knee injury, previously spent six seasons with the Seattle Mariners. He is a career .230 hitter with 51 home runs and 185 RBIs.
