By a vote of 44–3, New York City Council members approved legislation on Tuesday banning smokeless tobacco at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.

If mayor Bill de Blasio signs the bill, New York will become the fifth major city to implement a ban, joining San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston. The law would take effect immediately.
