Reds promote RHP Melville, designate 1B Allen for assignment

CINCINNATI (AP) The Cincinnati Reds have promoted right-hander Tim Melville from Triple-A Louisville and designated first baseman Brandon Allen for assignment.

The 26-year-old Melville is scheduled to make his major league debut in Sunday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park.

Allen was promoted from Louisville on Friday and didn't play in the two games for which he was active. He cleared waivers Sunday and was assigned to Louisville.
