Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz tried fight back tears as he watched his 15-year-old daughter, Alex, sing the national anthem before the team’s home opener at Fenway Park on Monday afternoon.

Ortiz embraced his daughter after she finished singing and appeared to wipe away a few tears as he rejoined his teammates during the pregame ceremonies.

Monday marked Ortiz’s final Opening Day with the Red Sox, as he announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

Several Boston sports stars made their way to Fenway as Ty Law of the Patriots, Bobby Orr of the Bruins and Bill Russell of the Celtics joined Ortiz in throwing out the first pitch.
