The Tigers have placed catcher James McCann on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain, the team announced on Tuesday.

McCann left Monday’s loss to the Pirates after rolling his ankle on a play at first base.

While legging out a grounder in the fifth, McCann tried to avoid John Jaso at first, and wound up planting his foot awkwardly and crashing into him.

Backup Jarrod Saltalamacchia took over the following inning. McCann was 0-for-2 on the day, bringing his batting average down to .133 on the season.
