Watch: Adam Jones’ David Ortiz tribute ruined by David Ortiz homer

Baltimore Orioles slugger Adam Jones paid a small tribute to Red Sox DH David Ortiz on Tuesday, wearing a gold chain with “500” pendant around his neck, the chain a giveaway by the Red Sox to commemorate Ortiz’s 500 career home runs.
The gesture was well-meaning. Then Ortiz had to go and ruin it.
Ortiz knocked out a first-inning home run against the Orioles, forcing Jones to tuck the necklace away, lest he look like he was rooting for the opposing team.

Ortiz’s home run was his third in Boston’s first seven games, making him the first 40-year-old to achieve the feat since Hank Aaron in 1974. Ortiz announced before the season he will retire after this year.
