LEADING OFF: Tanaka vs Iwakuma; Giants-Dodgers in prime time

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

---

FAR EAST, FAR OUT

Masahiro Tanaka of the Yankees and Hisashi Iwakuma of the Mariners are set to become the first set of Japanese teammates to oppose each other as starting pitchers in the major leagues. The 35-year-old Iwakuma and the 27-year-old Tanaka played together from 2007-11 with Rakuten. ''I'm sure there will be a lot of TVs on in Japan,'' Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

PRIME-TIME RIVALRY

In their seventh meeting already this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers host the rival San Francisco Giants in a prime-time matchup on national television. Jeff Samardzija pitches for the Giants against Japanese rookie Kenta Maeda, who is yet to allow a run in 12 innings.

JOEY BATS

Toronto slugger Jose Bautista takes aim at the Green Monster in Boston and looks to extend his strong start to the season. Bautista has reached base safely in all 12 games, getting on in 24 of 49 plate appearances.

BOUNCING BACK

Indians ace Corey Kluber, the 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner, seeks his first win of the season after losing his first two starts and allowing seven runs in 13 innings. He faces Mets rookie Steven Matz, who yielded seven runs over 1 2/3 innings in his worst professional start Monday against the Marlins.

PICK ME UP

With ace Adam Wainwright struggling early this season, the Cardinals look for help from right-hander Michael Wacha against Cincinnati. Wacha won the home opener with six scoreless innings Monday against Milwaukee. For his career, he's 7-2 with a 2.60 ERA in April.

A-SLUMP

Alex Rodriguez tries to snap an 0-for-19 slide when the punchless Yankees, who have lost four straight, host Seattle. New York hitters are 0 for 24 with runners in scoring position during the first two games of the series, and 3 for 46 in those situations in their last five. A season after hitting 33 home runs, Rodriguez is batting just .100 (3 for 30) with one homer and two RBIs.
