The Los Angeles Angels have placed outfielder Daniel Nava on the disabled list, the team announced Saturday.

Nava, who signed with Los Angeles in the offseason, is dealing with patella tendinitis in his left knee.

“His knee flared up, and we just need to take a step back,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “It flared up in Oakland a little bit, flared up toward the end of Spring Training. We're just going to make sure we get this behind us before he gets back out there.”

According to Scioscia, the injury started to affect Nava last season, and the team is not sure how long he will be out.

Through eight games, Nava is batting .286 with an RBI in 14 at-bats.
