Dodgers call up pitcher Avilan to replace Baez or Coleman

ATLANTA (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers have called up reliever Luis Avilan for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Avilan replaces right-hander Louis Coleman, who is going on the bereavement list because of the death of his grandfather.

The Dodgers also considered putting right-hander Pedro Baez on the disabled list after he was struck in the head with a ball while teammate Adam Liberatore was warming up during Wednesday night's game. Baez was going through the concussion protocol and, according to manager Dave Roberts, ''feels much better.''

Avilan was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The left-hander pitched four seasons for the Braves before being dealt to Los Angeles last year.
