Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner saw his no-hit bid on Sunday come to an end after 7 1/3 innings, after allowing a hard-hit single to rightfield off the bat of Jake Lamb.
The southpaw rolled up a double-play a few pitches later, and pitched the ninth, finishing off a complete game shutout with 117 pitches. Bumgarner struck out a season-high 14 batters, marking the 29th time in his career that he has fanned 10 or more in a game.
Prior to the hit in the eighth, Lamb was Arizona's only baserunner, reaching on a misplayed ball in rightfield by Gregor Blanco that went for an error in the fifth.
