Reports: Yankees, Cubs nearing trade for Aroldis Chapman

The Yankees and Cubs are nearing a deal for closer Aroldis Chapman, according to multiple reports. Top prospect Gleyber Torres would be among the players headed to New York.
Chapman, 28, is one of the biggest names rumored to be on the trading block ahead of Major League Baseball’s Aug. 1 deadline. The Yankees have reportedly been “aggressive” in shopping Chapman, with the Nationals, Giants and Cubs all interested in the flamethrowing lefthander.
In 31 1/3 innings this season, Chapman has converted 20 of 21 save opportunities, and tied his own record for fastest pitch in big-league history at 105.1 mph.

On Saturday, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported the Yankees are expected to hold onto set-up man Andrew Miller. Miller served as New York’s closer in 2015, and would likely slide into the role should Chapman be moved. Dellin Betances, currently serving as the team’s seventh-inning arm, would become the set-up man, a role he has also held before.
