New York Mets relief pitcher Jeurys Familia was diagnosed with an arterial clot in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

Familia will see Dr. Robert Thompson in St. Louis for further tests and possible surgery.

Familia has three saves so far this season. His ERA is 3.86, well higher than his 2.51 career average.

The Mets have struggled with injuries this season, and the team's pitching staff has been no exception. Starter Noah Syndergaard is on the 60-day DL with a shoulder injury.

The Mets are 16–17 entering Thursday, 5.5 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the NL East.
