Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll Reaches Third, Run Scores on Strikeout

This was maybe the wildest play of a high-scoring 16–13 affair in Atlanta.

In his second MLB season, Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll has locked in his place as one of baseball’s most exciting young stars. As the Braves learned on Tuesday, he doesn’t even need to make contact to make something happen at the plate.

With the game tied at 5–5 in just the second inning, Carroll struck out swinging on a pretty nasty slider by Atlanta’s Bryce Elder. Catcher Sean Murphy failed to catch the pitch cleanly, however, and threw the ball well past first baseman Matt Olson.

From there, it was off to the races for the speedy Carroll, swiper of 28 bases on the year already. Not only did he reach base safely on the strikeout, but he made it all the way to third while Ketel Marte scored on the play to give Arizona a 6–5 lead.

Carroll scored on the next at-bat, a base hit by Christian Walker.

One inning earlier, Carroll hit his fourth triple of the year, one of his two hits on the day along with two RBIs and three runs scored.

With the young star outfielder’s help, the Diamondbacks outlasted the Braves in Atlanta, 16–13.
