The Los Angeles Angels are set to play their third game of the season and look to carry the momentum from a dominant 13-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Your Halos currently sit at 1-1 and look to move on to a winning record after Sunday's match.

However, they will have to do so without third baseman Anthony Rendon and pitcher Griffin Canning. Rendon appeared to have hit his knee in Saturday's win and will sit our for precautionary measures while Canning will take part in a simulated bullpen session as he recovers from a groin injury that he got right before the season opener.

Both of these reports were shared by The Athletic's Sam Blum.

"Anthony Rendon is not in the lineup today. He banged his left knee on the tarp yesterday. He did say it was a pre-planned off day and that he’d be available to play if needed."

"Griffin Canning will throw a bullpen tomorrow as he rehabs from a groin injury."

A lot of fans are speculating that Rendon isn't playing for other reasons as well. He is at the peak of an ongoing investigation following his confrontation of an Oakland A's fan on Opening Day.

He did hit his knee mid-game on Saturday so it very well could be because of that but fans are wondering why one of the highest-paid players on the roster has planned off-day on the third game of the season.

Rendon did neglect to comment on the matters in a previous media session we do not know much from his end.

Canning had himself a very impressive 13 Spring Training games that saw him pitch a 1.32 ERA as he was looking to bounce back from two seasons with LA plagued by injuries. Unfortunately, he has found himself on the IL to start the year yet again.

You've got to be very careful with groin injuries as we've seen what they can do to the best of talents in our league but it's a good sign that he's undergoing pitching simulations again. Canning was set to make the Opening Day roster without a doubt prior to the injury.
