The 2023 WBC Championship match came down to none other than Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. With Japan up 3-2 at the top of the ninth inning and a full count, Ohtani struck out his star teammate and brought home the trophy to his country's team.

The crowd was silent and every fan had their phone out trying to capture this historic moment and Ohtani did not disappoint.

It's been a historic run for the 28-year-old star in this tournament and one of the biggest storylines coming into this game was whether or not he would pitch. He confirmed after the victory over Mexico that he would focus on hitting first and pitch if needed.

Once Ohtani headed towards the bullpen to warm up, everybody knew what was going to come next. Even before Trout stepped up to the plate as Team USA's final hitter of the game, the RHP had not allowed anybody to score.

Japan was already putting every other country on notice as they did not lose a single game when matched up against other squads in their pool. Ohtani was named MVP of those matches and continued to dominate once they hit the playoff matches.

Ohtani hadn't closed a game at the mound since 2016 but when Japan needed him most, he stepped up.
