Former Angels Pitcher Hints at Desire to Return to Halos at Trade Deadline

The Angels shocked the baseball world when they traded two of their top three prospects to the Chicago White Sox for Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. But they may not be done yet.

The team is winners in eight of their last 11 games to begin the second half of the season -- a period in stark contrast to their 1-9 run heading into the All Star break -- and a run that has made the Angels buyers at the deadline, as they're now just sitting a mere 3.5 games out of a playoff spot. And one former Angel is taking notice, and hinted at his desire to potentially return to southern California at the deadline.

Michael Lorenzen is having a great individual season for the Detroit Tigers. The starter made his first All-Star team this year, and is one of the few bright spots for a struggling Tigers team.

Ironically, he just started against the Halos on Thursday morning, pitching five innings and allowing three runs while striking out seven. Unfortunately, he was outdone by one Shohei Ohtani, who put in the best pitching performance of his career.

Lorenzen is also a Fullerton native and Cal State Fullerton alumnus, and he said something interesting when asked if he's thought about getting dealt back to his hometown team, per The Athletic's Sam Blum.

Is that foreshadowing?

It's difficult to say anything this time of year with certainty, but it looks like he'd welcome a return to a team that suddenly has major playoff aspirations.

Lorenzen proved to be a solid option in his lone season in Anaheim, tallying a 4.24 ERA in 2022.

But he's unlocked an extra gear in his year up north, and he'd help the Angels shore up their staff if they were to try to make a run at October.

Between that and the Tigers looking like sellers at the deadline, it may just be the perfect recipe to bring Lorenzen back home.
