The San Diego Padres are finalizing a deal to acquire Juan Soto and Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals. Soto, one of the biggest names on the trade market, turned down a 15-year, $440 million deal from the Nationals in July which led to Washington looking to move him.

The Padres will reportedly give left-handed pitcher Mackenzie Gore, outfielder Robert Hassell III, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielder James Wood, right-handed pitcher Jarlin Susana and one other player to the Nationals in return.

San Diego first baseman Eric Hosmer would have been in the mix as well, but used his no-trade clause to decline being traded to Washington. Once this deal is signed, the Padres will have added a two-time All-Star and World Series champion to their roster.

The 23-year old from the Dominican Republic is hitting .291/.427/.538 since coming into the league and has displayed his power constantly, launching 119 home runs. Bell will also be a very welcomed addition to San Diego, currently slashing .301/.384/.493 this season with 113 hits and 57 RBI.

Soto and Bell will join the likes of Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, making the Padres a force to be reckoned with at the plate. Combine that with arms like Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and the recent addition of Josh Hader, and it is looking like a powerhouse is forming on the West Coast.
