Astros Reportedly Interested in Extending Stars but No Discussions Underway

In this story:
Heading into 2024, much of the Houston Astros roster should look the same as they have their core still under contract.
This keeps them in their win-now window and should have them towards the top of favorites list to win a World Series championship again.
But after the upcoming season, two of their superstars, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve, are set to hit free agency and will likely have multiple suitors if they hit the open market.
Ideally, the Astros would like to avoid this and have already started formulating a plan to offer contract extensions.
Super-agent Scott Boras represents both Bregman and Altuve and has said there is interest from Houston in getting deals done.
"Scott Boras said the Astros have expressed a desire to extend Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman, but there have been no discussions yet," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
That seems to be on par for general manager Dana Brown and this front office. They have been methodical in their approach across multiple areas and won't rush into anything.
The best thing the Astros can do is attack this offseason trying to add pieces, and then work to get these extensions done.
Having Bregman, one of the top third basemen in the MLB, and Altuve, one of the best postseason players of all-time, hit the open market would surely make it more difficult for Houston to re-sign them.
Other teams would be champing at the bit to add these stars to their team and take them away from the Astros, so would likely throw lucrative offers at them.
It's unclear whether Boras and Brown will get these extensions done this offseason before the start of 2024, but it's clearly something on the mind of both parties.
