Astros Star Reliever Suspended After Role in Benches Clearing Brawl

The Houston Astros will be without one of their top relievers after he was suspended for his role in the benches clearing brawl against the Texas Rangers in Game 5 of the ALCS.

The Houston Astros had an incredible come from behind victory in Game 5 of the ALCS against their heated rival Texas Rangers.

That disdain was in full effect after Rangers' star slugger Adolis Garcia was hit with a pitch following his game changing home run in the sixth inning that gave Texas a 4-2 lead.

Garcia was hit by Bryan Abreu in the eighth inning that prompted a bases clearing moment.

The Astros' reliever was ejected and manager Dusty Baker was later shown the door after arguing with the ruling.

Houston went on to win the game in the ninth inning after a three-run homer from Jose Altuve secured a 5-4 victory.

But, the Astros will now be without Abreu for the next two games according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale.

This suspension is effective immediately, but he's expected to appeal the ruling.

"All six of the Major League Umpires deemed Abreu's pitch to have been intentional. In assessing the matter, Major League Baseball took into account the dangerous nature of the pitch and its potential impact on player safety," the release read.

The ruling will come into effect immediately and force Abreu to sit out Game 6 of the ALCS and Game 7 if the Rangers are able to win on Sunday.

In addition to the suspension, the reliever is also receiving an undisclosed fine because of his actions.

Texas' pitcher Matt Busch and Houston's injured pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. also received undisclosed fines as well, preventing them from sitting on their team's benches for Game 6.

Baker was fined as well, but will be able to manage on Sunday.
