McCormick's Historical Season Continues to Propel Houston Astros

In this story:
Chas McCormick has been flat out awesome for the Houston Astros this season.
Coming off his two home run performance against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, the outfielder has now hit the most home runs he's ever had in a season.
His 15 dingers in 68 games played eclipse his previous highs of 14 during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In those years he had over 100 appearances.
McCormick's offense has been a huge reason why the Houston Astros are still in the AL West division race. With Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve on the IL for an extended period of time, the offense was severely lacking compared to past seasons.
He was one of the hottest hitters in the month of July, putting up his career best slash line of .351/.440/.688 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 77 at bats.
His play has cemented him as an everyday player for the Astros. McCormick can play every outfield position which allows manager Dusty Baker to move pieces around and utilize their depth as they get Alvarez back in the mix.
It's been a big year for the former 21st round pick as he's playing his third full major league season.
He spoke with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest after the game on Wednesday discussing how he's taken the next step in his career saying, "I just made sure to come ready to play this year. You know, it's a bigger year for myself and I've just been working hard."
McCormick's performance helped Houston stay a half game back in the division race.
"Everything's coming together pretty well right now, but, you know, we still got the final stretch of the season and I'm just happy to be helping the team win," he said.
If the emerging outfielder continues to stay this hot, he could be another player on the Astros that becomes a household name.
