Houston Astros Announce Front Office Shake Up

In this story:
The Houston Astros are in the middle of trying to repeat as World Series champions starting with the ALDS round against the Minnesota Twins.
After taking Game 1, they dropped Game 2 at home and will hit the road for the next two in the series.
While playoff baseball is being played, the Astros announced two changes to their front office as they look to restructure things under their first-year general manager Dana Brown.
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Houston parted ways with longtime assistant general manager Bill Furkus and farm director Sara Goodrum.
Brown confirmed those changes to Rome saying, "We went in a different direction."
Owner Jim Crane had promoted Furkus to the assistant GM role after the departure of former general manager James Click following the 2022 season.
Furkus had been the longest-tenured employees on the baseball operations side after spending 10 years within the organization.
Goodrum was a holdover from the Click regime after being hired from the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021.
She oversaw the Astros' player development infrastructure and became one of the highest-ranking female executives in the MLB.
These changes come on the heels of Brown looking to change his front office after saying there would be "at least six" promotions, according to Rome of The Athletic.
Andrew Ball and Charles Cook are the two remaining assistants under Brown.
There were some questions how much faith the owner Crane had in his first-year GM after reportedly attempting to hire David Stearns as the President of Baseball Operations early in the year.
Now, it looks like Brown has the full backing of ownership as he looks to reshape the front office to fit the vision he has for this organization moving forward.
