Houston Astros Top Prospect Makes Team Of The Week

In this story:
There has been much discussion about how the Houston Astros don't have a strong farm system. According to MLB Run, they rank dead last in the league after the trade deadline.
Overall, that isn't a big deal for the Astros who are looking to capitalize on their current window to win World Series. However, prospects can be used to get major league players in the future to boost their roster.
One of the prospects in Triple-A put together a huge week that put his name on the map and earned him Prospect of the Week honors.
In five games, second baseman Pedro Leon hit five home runs with 13 RBI and an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.091.
He's currently ranked as the 13th prospect in the Houston farm system despite having a good season for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
Leon is hitting .266/.350/.489 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI through 98 games this season. It's his second full season in a row at the Triple-A level and he's improved every single one of his statistics.
He's an interesting prospect because MLB.com has him likely to be called up to the major league level this season. The issue for him is, Jose Altuve is back healthy in the lineup and producing at a high level.
It's unlikely that Leon will take reps away from Altuve during the AL West division race. The other position he plays is outfield. Depending on how Chas McCormick returns from injury, that could be his opening to make the major league roster.
Regardless if the minor leaguer is able to make his MLB debut this season, it looks like they have another strong prospect in the farm system they can eventually call up or use as a trade piece.
