Braves Briefing: Atlanta wins second straight series, Dylan Dodd excels

The Atlanta Braves looked solid in the 4-1 game two win over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night. Prospect lefty Dylan Dodd showed he was ready for the big stage.
Dylan Dodd delivered
In his MLB debut, Dodd showed that he is worthy of a spot in the Atlanta Braves rotation. He pitched a complete five innings, struck out three, and allowed one run.
The Atlanta Braves may have another young stud on the mound early in a season where that may have been the biggest question mark on this roster. Dodd looked great Tuesday night.

Pitch Clock
The pitch clock is making games shorter. While there are differing opinions on this, we are going to follow this data all season long.
OptaStats tweeted out, "There have been 3682 days over the last 35 seasons on which at least 14 MLB games were played. The average time of games Tuesday (2:33) was the shortest out of any of them."
Staying in the NL East, Sandy Alcántara shut out the Twins last night in a 1-0 contest that was played in just an hour and 57 minutes, three minutes shy of two hours.

Braves Today writer Will Moon shared several takeaways from last night's win. The first one - Dylan Dodd.
I covered it more thoroughly in an earlier article tonight, but the biggest story tonight has to be Dylan Dodd. Back in Missouri (where he played his college ball) and in front of a vocal contingent of family members, the rookie southpaw came up big tonight. Five innings, one earned run, three Ks and no walks will play pretty much every night for this team, especially if the position players bring both the lumber and the leather like they did tonight.
Dodd was efficient and composed, two extremely promising signs for a young starter. The Redbird lineup is one of the league's best, and Dodd was able to essentially dominate them the first time through before having to pitch out of some jams on the second go-around. He even overcame what is often an underappreciated nemesis for a young pitcher, his own defensive mistake. It helped having some strong defense played behind him, but more on that in another takeaway.
