The Braves didn't have the postseason they wanted, but a memorable highlight came out of it

Braves Briefing: Michael Harris II's walkoff catch in NLDS nominated for MLB's "Legendary Moment Award"

MLB's looking back at the 2023 postseason and choosing the most legendary moments for their (fittingly-named) Legendary Moment Award, and the Atlanta Braves are in the mix.

Outfielder Michael Harris II's game-sealing double play in game two of the NLDS is one of four remaining nominees for consideration, and voting is open now

The 9th inning catch and subsequent double play from Harris that sealed Atlanta's come from behind game two victory in the NLDS is paired with Adolis Garcia's walkoff homer in game one of the World Series.

On the other side of the bracket is a play from that same game - Corey Seager's game-tying homer in that same game. It's up against Bryce Harper's two homer night in game three of the NLDS.

Voting is open now at MLB.com

We Wrote It

MLB.com wrote about the possibility of Atlanta signing Max Fried's high school teammates Lucas Giolito and Jack Flaherty in free agency, and we pointed out that besides the need for starting pitching, there's off-the-field reasons why this might be a good thing if it happens.

IF - and that's a big "if" - Atlanta's dead set on re-signing Max Fried after this season, bringing in his former high-school teammates who he's still close with has additional value for the Braves.
It'll require a lot of work, as well as a willingness to cross the $22M AAV threshold that no Braves player to date has exceeded, but if the Braves want to retain their ace in future seasons, this can't hurt.
We've seen this in other sports, whether it's Lebron James lobbying for his teams to trade for Kyrie Irving or Aaron Rodgers somehow continuing to get Randall Cobb contracts everywhere he goes. There's nothing publicly that says that Fried's asked for this to happen, but you have to assume it wouldn't hurt Atlanta's chances, right?

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

92 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
