Lineup, how to watch Atlanta's game two in Miami

The Braves have yet another pitching rematch from last week, as Kyle Wright faces off against lefty Braxton Garrett

Sometimes, the MLB schedule doesn't really make sense.

The Atlanta Braves are facing off with the Miami Marlins for the second time in two weeks, with the pitching matchups repeating themselves for at least the first two games. The Bravos won three of four against Miami last week, and have opened this three game series with a win.

But after this series, which concludes Thursday, the two teams don't meet again until the end of June, playing three games in Atlanta, before concluding the season series with three games in Miami in September. At the end of this week, you'll have played more than half of 2023's thirteen total matchups between the clubs in Atlanta's first thirty-two games.

Make it make sense.

Lineup

Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:

The Atlanta Braves continue to make some baffling decisions with the lineup: Marcell Ozuna gets a second straight start at DH, although with the caveat that he did collect two hits and get on base three times in yesterday's game. More puzzling is Kevin Pillar over Sam Hilliard in left field - since Michael Harris returned for the April 28th series opener against the Mets, Hilliard has received exactly one start in the field despite hitting .296/.356/.537 and playing pretty good defense in centerfield in Harris's place.

It's at least defensible today - Hilliard has significantly better platoon splits against righties, and Miami's starting a lefty on the mound, but it's still surprising.

Pitching Matchup

Just like last week, it's another repeat matchup with Kyle Wright facing off against Braxton Garrett.

On the season, Wright is 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA in his four starts, with seventeen strikeouts to nine walks in his 16.2 innings. He's steadily improved each outing, with last week's being his most effective, but also his shortest: Three innings of two hit scoreless baseball with one walk and six strikeouts. A rain delay was the only thing that was able to shut down Wright, as a three-hour delay ended his outing and send Atlanta into its bullpen, which eventually blew the lead with a five-run ninth by the Marlins to stave off a series sweep.

Garrett pitched well in that outing, as well, going three scoreless innings with only one hit, no walks, and three strikeouts. Only Kevin Pillar got on base versus Garrett, via one out groundball to the left side. On the season, the lefty Garrett is 1-0 with a 2,45 ERA in his five appearances (four starts), with nineteen strikeouts to three walks in his twenty-two innings pitched.
