The Atlanta Braves have split the first two games of the interleague matchup with the Texas Rangers down in Arlington, and they may have saved the best for last: Spencer Strider versus Nathan Eovaldi. Both right-handed pitchers have excelled this season, leading their team in wins in the injury list absence of the rotation's ace (Max Fried for Atlanta, Jacob Degrom for Texas).

Atlanta Braves Lineup for Wednesday, May 17th

Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:

Eddie Rosario returns to left field, batting 5th. Sean Murphy gets the night off in favor of Travis d'Arnaud, batting 6th, who has faced Eovaldi before.Marcell Ozuna enters as the DH, batting 7th, with the usual bottom of the lineup consisting of Orlando Arcia and Michael Harris batting 8th and 9th, respectively.

Atlanta Braves vs Texas Rangers Pitching Matchup

As we mentioned at the top, tonight's a good one.

Atlanta's sending Spencer Strider to the mound. He's 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA on the season, striking out a league-leading 79 batters in 46.2 innings across his eight starts with a 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings that leads all of baseball. He's faced the Rangers once before, going 3.2 innings in relief on April 30th of 2022 and striking out five, with no hits and one walk.

Countering Strider is righty Nathan Eovaldi. The veteran, in his first year of a two-year, $34M deal with the Rangers that could be worth up to $63M over three years if his conditional player option is exercised, is 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA across his eight starts. He's struck out 56 batters in his 53.1 innings pitched, with eight walks and only one homerun allowed. He's faced the Braves 15 times in his long career, dating back to 2011, and is 3-3 with a 2.82 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. Four current Braves have hit homeruns off of Eovaldi, with Matt Olson (2), Marcell Ozuna (2), Kevin Pillar (2), and Travis d'Arnaud (2) all taking the veteran deep in their careers.
