Lineup, how to watch the Atlanta Braves series opener with the Los Angeles Dodgers

The teams with the two best records in the National League match up for a possible playoff preview, and LA's bringing some old friends back to Atlanta

The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers have some history.

Los Angeles eliminated Atlanta in the 2020 NLCS, en route to winning the World Series. Atlanta returned the favor to LA as they marched to a title of their own in 2021.

Long-time Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman defected to LA after the Atlanta championship, and there was a tearful return last year when Freeman and the Dodgers came to Atlanta for a series and took two out of three from Atlanta.

Joining Freeman this year in LA are former Braves Shelby Miller, working in the bullen, and Jason Heyward, platoon bat in the outfield.

Both teams are leading their respective divisions and look remarkably similar - the matchup will definitely serve a measuring stick for both ball clubs one-fourth of the way through the season.

Atlanta Braves Lineup for Monday, May 22nd

Here's how the Braves will line up for the series opener:

Safe to call this "the" lineup, yeah? Since Austin Riley's uptick at the plate coincided with his move to the cleanup spot, that's probably not going to change anytime soon for Atlanta. Eddie Rosario and Ozzie Albies behind him with Marcell Ozuna on the seven spot seems to be working well enough in May, and Michael Harris behind Orlando Arcia and batting 9th seems poised to explode Harris's run production once his bat gets back to speed, now that he's finally shed the leg brace he's been wearing over that hyperextended knee for the last few weeks.

Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Dodgers Pitching Matchup

The Braves are sending veteran Charlie Morton to the mound. Sitting 5-3 on the season with a 2.85 ERA, the righty is striking out 9.3 batters per nine innings. He's faced the Dodgers three times in the regular season as an Atlanta Brave, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA against LA. He has one postseason start against LA as well, in the 2021 NLCS, where he went five innings with three hits and two runs in a no-decision that ended up as a 6-5 Dodgers victory in game three.

Opposing Atlanta is prospect Gavin Stone. This is only his second start of the year in MLB - Stone went four innings against the Phillies on May 3rd, giving up eight hits and five runs (four earned) in an eventual 10-6 Dodgers victory. In AAA Oklahoma City, Stone is 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA in his eight starts, striking out 41 in his 35.2 innings of work with 19 walks and five homeruns allowed.
