It's the day before Independence Day, but the Braves are looking to get the fireworks started early

The only thing hotter than the July temperatures right now are the Atlanta Braves.

Winners of eight straight and sixteen of the last seventeen, the Braves just set a franchise record for homeruns in a single three-game homestand with eleven bombs against the Miami Marlins. Now that the sweep is secured, they hop on the road to face a Cleveland Guardians team that, while in 2nd place in the AL Central, is one game below .500. And the Braves are doing it in a ballpark that's essentially neutral for hitters, and a place where the Guardians are only 20-19 and have been outscored by fourteen runs.

Today's a battle of the Young Guns, as Atlanta sends 24 year-old All Star Bryce Elder to the mound against 23 year-old Gavin Williams.

Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Monday, July 3rd

Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:

Atlanta's going back to the All-Star starter at catcher, with Sean Murphy batting 5th behind Matt Olson. Given that Atlanta's faced a run of right-handed starters recently, the outfield rotation has been pretty consistent, with Eddie Rosario running out there almost every single day and batting 7th, one spot behind DH Marcell Ozuna.

Bryce Elder, newly named to his 1st career All-Star team, is the starter for Atlanta. 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA in his sixteen starts, he leads all of baseball in ERA+ at 184. He's been on a run of quality starts recently, with his last three starts seeing Elder allow only three runs in nineteen innings, with eleven hits, six walks, and fourteen strikeouts. Only one Guardians player has faced Elder, former Washington Nationals first baseman Josh Bell, who is 1-3 with a HR.

Opposing the Braves is right-hander Gavin Williams. One of Cleveland's top pitching prospects, Williams is 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his two starts on the season. He's pitched twelve and two-thirds innings against the Athletics and Royals, and those two starts couldn't have been more different. After only five and two-thirds innings with four runs and three walks against Oakland in his MLB debut, Williams rebounded with seven innings of one-hit, shutout baseball in Kansas City with one walk and six strikeouts, only allowing three total baserunners (the third was on a HBP).
