Lineups, how to watch Atlanta's Monday's doubleheader against the Mets

After a game one win and two straight rainouts, the Braves send Spencer Strider and Charlie Morton to the mound with eyes on a series sweep

On Friday, the Atlanta Braves extended their division lead over the New York Mets to three games thanks to Max Fried's dominant five innings and the rain waiting to settle in until after the Braves put up a four-spot on the board in the 5th inning.

Then both Saturday and Sunday's games got rained out, giving us a total of five innings of baseball over the last three days. But, now that the bullpen is rested, we get eighteen this afternoon.

Game One

Lineup

Here's how Atlanta will line up for Monday's first game:

Atlanta's going with Eddie Rosario as DH and Kevin Pillar in left, sending Sam Hilliard to the bench for game one. I'd expect a different outfield configuration for game two, as the Braves will surely want Sean Murphy to DH but not catch eighteen innings in one game, so expect Rosario to probably be in left field unless they're worried about platoon splits.

Pitching Matchup

Just like Friday, it's another pitching matchup that, on paper, is slanted towards Atlanta.

The Braves start Spencer Strider. The righty from Clemson has been superb this season, with a 3-0 record in his five starts and an ERA of 1.80. He's thrown thirty innings with forty-nine strikeouts to only eleven walks, an absolutely ELITE (and MLB-leading) 14.7 K/9. Against the Mets, Strider's been mostly successful, going 2-1 in five appearances (three starts). His 4.30 ERA is mostly owing to one blowup, getting tagged for six hits and four runs in only 2.2 innings on August 7th of 2022. Strider recovered to beat the Mets again the next week, going five innings with three hits and one run allowed in a Braves win.

Opposing Strider is Denyi Reyes. The righty has appeared in five games this season, all in relief, with no runs allowed over his 6.1 innings. He's given up three hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts. He has never faced Atlanta.

Game Two

Lineup

As we discussed earlier, Murphy is indeed the DH for game two, and the outfield configuration IS different - Michael Harris II gets game two off, with Sam Hilliard playing centerfield and batting seventh while Eddie Rosario mans left field, batting fifth. Joining Harris for a breather is Vaughn Grissom, as Ehire Adrianza is the starting shortstop and bats eighth, and Chadwick Tromp catches the 2nd game and bats ninth.

Pitching Matchup

Starting game two for Atlanta is veteran Charlie Morton. The righty is 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA on the season, with 26 strikeouts in his 29.1 innings on the season. Since returning to Atlanta for the 2021 season, Morton is 3-2 with a 3.54 ERA against the Mets in nine starts.

Opposing Morton is Tyler Megill. The righty is 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA in five starts on the 2023 season, defeating the Padres and the Marlins (twice) while dropping matchups against the Giants and Dodgers. He's appeared six times (five starts) against Atlanta in his short career, officially 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 25.2 innings. His last start, almost a year ago on May 4th, 2022, saw him go 5.1 innings with four hits and three runs with two walks to nine strikeouts.

Of note, both Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley have faced Megill thirteen times, with Albies having a career .308 (and a homerun) and Riley sitting at .231 (also with a homer).

How to Watch

The first game will start at 1:10 ET with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest. Both game broadcasts, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, are available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South and on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio calls, with Ben Ingram, are available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
