In this story:

It seems likely the Milwaukee Brewers will be playing baseball in October for the eighth time in the past nine seasons, as they hold the best record in baseball with a little over 30 games left.

Milwaukee has been the definition of consistency for nearly a decade, dominating its division, and is on track for its fourth-straight division title. The Brewers' offense has done well despite lacking power and mashing the fewest home runs in the league, scoring the fourth-most runs, but the bullpen has really stepped up this season.

The Brewers' bullpen has been one of the strongest units, boasting a 3.37 ERA, the third-best in the league. Milwaukee's bullpen has been great this season, but there are a few hurlers, including Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe and JoJo Romero, who will likely define the final stretch of the regular season for the team.

Aaron Ashby

Ashby leads all Brewers pitchers in both appearances and wins this season, going 13-2 in 59 games. The 28-year-old has thrown 71 innings out of the bullpen, aside from one start, fanning 101 batters while posting a 3.30 ERA. Ashby has arguably been the Brewers' most consistent reliever from the bullpen, and his ability to eat innings will be incredibly important down the stretch to keep the rest of the bullpen as fresh as possible for the postseason.

Abner Uribe

Uribe has been elite this season and has been one of the best setup relievers. The 26-year-old has an outstanding 2.05 ERA across 49 appearances this season, but is on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm flexor strain. Luckily, Uribe likely won't miss significant time, as the four-year veteran is trending up and making progress in his recovery.

Milwaukee needs Uribe down the stretch to lock down a top seed for the postseason and will surely need the high-leverage reliever for the playoffs. He leads the team with 18 holds this season and could use some time in the regular season to get back up to speed for the playoffs.

JoJo Romero

Milwaukee acquired Romero as part of a trade at the deadline with the St. Louis Cardinals, bringing in the veteran reliever along with Dustin May for a couple of prospects. The 29-year-old reliever was solid this season with the Cardinals, posting a 3.35 ERA across 44 appearances and striking out 43 batters.

Romero has not pitched since July 12, after undergoing an appendectomy and being placed on the 15-day injured list, but is making progress toward a return and is scheduled to pitch a live BP today. The seven-year hurler is a talented, high-leverage setup and middle reliever who could make an impact down the stretch for the Brewers in both the regular season and the playoffs. Still, he needs to get back in action soon to get some reps in before the postseason.

If the Brewers don't want to repeat history and fall short in the postseason again this year, the bullpen will need to continue playing at a high level. Ashby, Uribe and Romero are three key relievers whose success could make or break the team down the stretch.
