Chicago Cubs Linked as Potential Suitor for Padres Superstar

The Chicago Cubs could add some extra star power to the lineup this winter by chasing down Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.

The Chicago Cubs were just one piece away from making the 2024 MLB postseason as Wild Card. They were one massive piece away from winning the National League Central division.

The Cubs have plenty of money to spend and a ton of prospect capital to pull off high-value trades as they come out of their rebuild.

One name that is already popping up on the trade market is San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto.

Think about this for a moment - Soto, Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki patrolling the Wrigley Field outfield together.

It's possible, if the Cubs are willing to invest the capital.

In fact, Bleacher Nation reported that Chicago does in fact have interest in pursuing a trade of Soto this winter. How likely that is remains to be seen.

Soto only has a year left until he is a free agent, so the cost of acquiring him, especially with the Padres once again shedding payroll and turning heel, will be relatively low for a star of his stature.

The Cubs can also invest in keeping Bellinger around to create one of the most formidable lineups in the entire game.

By adding Soto, Chicago instantly becomes the NL Central favorites and dramatically boosts their chances of returning to the postseason.

The Cubs will have an exciting offseason, especially with the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes that are guaranteed to ensue.

But perhaps Chicago can look elsewhere for its star power while also furnishing one of its greatest needs.
