Another day, another Cody Bellinger and Chicago Cubs story.

At this point, the entire situation has entered a zone of repetitiveness that has to be frustrating for everyone involved, especially the fans.

With Spring Training right around the corner, it would be great for those involved with the Cubs to know if the best hitter on last year's team will be present for the 2024 campaign.

As it stands right now, Bellinger will not be back.

Sure, a reunion has been rumored by just about every single insider throughout the entire offseason, but for something to get done it ultimately comes down to finances.

And Chicago is not interested in meeting what Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, is asking for to sign the star slugger.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN went on ESPN1000 Carmen & Jurko to share that the Cubs are not going to change their stance on meeting the $200 million price tag to reunite with Bellinger according to Bleacher Nation.

Rogers has been one of the few insiders who doesn't think something between the two parties will get worked out.

If the price doesn't come down, then there will be no deal.

Chicago has done a decent job at setting up a contingency plan in case they aren't able to get the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year onto their roster once again.

Their top prospect, Pete Crow-Armstrong, will likely assume the everyday center fielder role, and their newly acquired first baseman, Michael Busch, should command that position for the majority of his time barring poor performance or injury.

Losing Bellinger would certainly be a major loss.

Again, he was their best hitter last season and the Cubs haven't been able to completely replace the power they would lose without him in the lineup.

But, Chicago is not desperate.

They won't hand out a deal they don't think is beneficial to the franchise in the long term.

The relationship between the Cubs and Boras is already minimal, so if both parties continue to be stubborn, then they will move on without Bellinger.
