Jorge Barrosa Removed From Aces Game with Injury

The Diamondbacks outfield prospect suffered what might be a right hamstring injury in the 4th inning of Reno's game Sunday.

Diamondbacks outfield prospect Jorge Barrosa suffered an injury in the 4th inning of Reno's series finale against the Tacoma Rainiers Sunday. Barrosa misplayed a line drive hit by Jonatan Clase, which clanked off his glove and then had to chase it for a double. After the next batter reached on an infield hit, he was removed from the game. When being checked out by trainers, it appeared that Barrosa indicated his right hamstring was the problem, double-tapping the area during the minor league broadcast. We'll get more details on the nature of the injury.

The D-backs outfield depth has thinned a bit this season. Center fielder Alek Thomas is currently on the 10-day injured list, dealing with his own hamstring injury suffered on March 30th. The D-backs now have four healthy outfielders on their 40-man roster plus Joc Pederson, who has played exclusively at designated hitter. Albert Almora Jr. could be an option if the team needed to bring more depth in from Triple-A this season, but would need to be added to the 40-man roster.

Triple-A: Reno Aces 7, Tacoma Rainiers 11

Blake Walston allowed two runs in the first, but had appeared to settle down afterward with three consecutive zeros as the Reno offense got to work. The wheels fell off in the 5th, as he surrendered a two-run home run and only got one out in the inning. Overall he allowed five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 innings on 11 hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

Pavin Smith hit a grand slam in the 3rd inning, launching the ball 109.6 MPH and traveling 430 feet. Adrian Del Castillo singled and walked twice in this game.

Double-A: Amarillo Sod Poodles 1, Midland RockHounds 11

A.J. Vukovich led Amarillo with three hits in four at-bats, pushing his season average up to .323 with an .881 OPS. Ivan Melendez and Deyvison De Los Santos posted identical statlines of 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

High-A: Hillsboro Hops 7, Vancouver Canadians 8

Joe Elbis allowed three runs in five innings, with all the damage coming in the 3rd on a three-run home run. Elbis allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out three. Tommy Troy was 0-for-4 with an RBI fielder's choice and a stolen base in the 1st. Christian Cerda singled, walked, and scored a run in three at-bats. Zane Russell came in the 9th with two outs, a two-run lead, and the tying runs on base and gave up a double, walk, and single that allowed Vancouver to walk it off.

Low-A: Visalia Rawhide vs. San Jose Giants Postponed

The game was postponed due to wet grounds per the update on milb.com. No make-up date has been announced. Originally this was supposed to be a make-up game from the night before.
