As the Dodgers play the Washington Nationals this week, the entire team has one eye looking ahead to the weekend. That's when the Yankees come into town. While the offense is mostly set day in and day out for now, things aren't as consistent on the pitching side of things. And, as Julio Urias and Dustin May remain sidelined, it will likely continue to look that way.

The starting rotation was a point of topic on Monday for Dave Roberts and a group of local reporters. More specifically the future of struggling rookie Gavin Stone. After his most recent outing where 7 runs were scored on him in just 2 innings, Roberts said the team would talk internally about his immediate future in the big leagues. On Monday, Doc kicked the can down the road once again.

The Dodgers have two more against the Nats then an off day before the Yanks come to town. That off day could be used to adjust things in the rotation to line up with that series.

"Right now, I don't think any of us knows exactly what we're going to do with the off day. We have an opportunity to push guys back, keep certain guys on regular rest, or we can push them back. So we've got a little latitude and flexibility."

Clayton Kershaw is lined up to make his next start in that series, whether it be on Friday or Saturday is unclear at the moment. After Bobby Miller's great outing on Monday, Roberts confirmed he would start on Sunday against New York. The other guy that would be lineup up is Stone but Dave said the team is taking time before making any decisions.

Notably, Michael Grove was in town on Monday. He's been on the IL since a groin injury sidelined him on April 20th. The rookie is coming off a solid rehab start this past weekend where he tossed 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out 7 and building his pitch count up to 77 pitches.

So, doing the quick math here, the Yankees series will look something like:

  • Friday: Kershaw or Grove or Stone
  • Saturday: Kershaw or Grove or Stone
  • Sunday: Miller

The team should announce sometime on Wednesday afternoon.
