America's Slugger is back. He's all the way back. Max Muncy is on an absolute tear right now, hitting .389 with 5 home runs over the last week and .368 with 10 homers since April 10th. He leads all of baseball with 11 bombs this season.

Considering how things started for Max, it's a tale of two seasons so far. Through his first 10 games he was hitting .121 with a homer and 2 RBI. Then he went to the well and brought back the step back swing he discovered last season. In the view of manager Dave Roberts, it may have saved Muncy.

"He's been on maybe his best tear (of his career) in this 10 day/two week period. He was lost early and now you're talking about leading the league in homers and player of the month acknowledgement. To have some other guys not swinging well and to have Max carry us... big cog."

Max talked with reporters, sharing when he realized he need to make the change. He also touched on his spot among the league leaders in baseball.

“I try not to pay too much attention to it, but it’s very rewarding. It wasn’t the best start, obviously. But it’s one of those things where sometimes, this game will tell you what needs to happen, and maybe it was telling me that I needed to make some changes. And that’s what we did, and so far it’s been working.”

He spoke one day before about the changes and the step leading to this power surge.

“Clearing my head. That was the main reason for me going back to the step-back, being able to clear my head in the box and allow my swing and my path, which I worked really hard on this offseason, to just be able to do what it needs to do. It’s hard to do that when you’re thinking about a bunch of stuff in the box and you’re tying yourself up and you’re becoming tight. So for me, it’s just being free and easy in the box and being mentally clear.”
