Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin May Be Heading For Surgery

Not great news for the veteran pitcher...

The Dodgers have seen multiple injuries to their pitching staff this season, causing them to maneuver things around consistently. They have relied upon members of the organization that they likely never saw coming, but it has helped get them to this point.

LA is still one of the better teams in baseball, showing that the way they operate can have success despite all the talent they lost over the offseason.

However, they recently lost a member of their starting staff for the season, and now he may require surgery. Right-handed Tony Gonsolin may end up missing more time than originally thought.

It was announced that he would be out for the rest of this current season, but he may also have to miss part of next year as well. Manager Dave Roberts provided an ominous update on the veteran.

Gonsolin was already in jeopardy of losing his spot in the LA rotation prior to his injury, but this is unfortunate to see. The former All-Star hasn’t been able to reclaim his form from the first half of the 2022 season, and it has cost him.

On the year, he owns an 8-5 record with a 4.98 ERA. He has also struck out 82 batters over 103 innings of work.

LA will miss his ability to eat innings down the stretch, but he was getting rocked every few games. It was becoming a major issue for this club and the injury amplified things. Roberts said that he was playing through it, likely the cause for some of his struggles this season.

The hope is that Gonsolin can make a full recovery and return next year. His status with the club remains up in the air, but he did sign a new two-year contract with the team earlier this year.

Gonsolin will likely be a member of the Dodgers for next season, and we all hope that he can return to the mound sooner rather than later.
