Dodgers News: Will Smith is the Second Best Catcher in Baseball Right Now

Since Dodgers catcher Will Smith came into the league in 2019, he has gradually developed his skills to become one of the best catchers in the league.
When comparing his talent to other catchers, J.T. Realmuto and Willson Contreras are the only other two catchers that have posted higher Wins Above Replacements since Smith entered the MLB.
Even though he may fly under the radar to the vast majority, the MLB Network ranked Smith as the third-best catcher in baseball in last year’s “Top 10 Right Now” series. This year, Smith has been recognized on that list once again and even improved his ranking.
One of the most powerful bats at his position, @Dodgers slugger Will Smith led all catchers with 87 RBI in 2022.

This year, Smith is listed as the number two catcher, following J.T. Realmuto’s top spot. Realmuto had another great season, where he hit a .276 average with 22 home runs and 84 RBI.

After Smith was snubbed from All-Star voting in years prior, he makes a statement by sitting in the top 5 of this list for two years in a row.
Last season, Smith batted a .261/.356/.501 and also hit 26 doubles, with 24 home runs, and three triples. He posted his lowest OPS+ at 120, but still his highest WAR (4.2).
The catcher led all players at the position last season with 87 RBI and also held the highest WRC+ (132) out of all catchers since the 2020 season.
It is no doubt Smith remains consistent and works to deliver once again for Los Angeles this season.
