The biggest goal for the Dodgers this offseason will be to upgrade their starting rotation. It’s no secret that they plan to do this around the league, and they are expected to be aggressive in doing so.

The team will look in all different sorts of places to find pitchers, both on the free-agent market and via trades. Their rotation was the biggest weakness for this club a year ago, and they don’t want to make the same mistakes in 2024.

One player that has been linked to the Dodgers for some time now is Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease. Cease is expected to be available this winter, and General Manager Chris Getz confirmed this at the GM meetings.

“From Major League Baseball’s since-cancelled GM Meetings on Wednesday, new White Sox general manager Chris Getz all but confirmed that the team is open for business by saying: “There are no untouchables.”

Per Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report

Cease would be an excellent addition to this Dodgers rotation, and he would give them the front-line starter that they have been searching for. But it won’t come cheap if they want to acquire him from Chicago.

Bleacher Report MLB writer Zachary D. Rymer put together a trade package for the team to land the star pitcher, and it has LA coughing up a few of their better prospects.

“Trade Proposal: Los Angeles Dodgers get RHP Dylan Cease; Chicago White Sox get C Dalton Rushing, 2B/3B Michael Busch”

Per Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report

It feels almost like a lock that the team will heavily look into trading Busch this offseason, so sending him out for Cease makes sense. And while the Dodgers don’t want to trade Rushing, they know that in order to get talent, they need to give it up.

Cease could lead their rotation for the next few years since he is under team control until after the 2025 season. Last year for the White Sox, he put up an ERA of 4.58 and a WHIP of 1.42 while striking out 214 batters over 177 innings of work.

His best season came in 2022 when he posted an ERA of 2.20 over 32 starts for the White Sox. Cease has electrifying stuff on the mound, and he would instantly become a fan favorite for the Dodgers.

LA is expected to look at multiple routes to upgrade its rotation, and this is one of those ways. The team needs to get at least two starters, and this could be the beginning of a very successful offseason.
