Dodgers Rumors: Insider Sees Trade Fit for LA and Lucas Giolito

In this story:

The Dodgers are in need of help in the pitching department, both in the bullpen and in their starting rotation. The team has been decimated by injuries and inconsistency as the season has gone on. Four of the five starters that were on the Opening Day roster are now on the injured list so LA has been relying on multiple rookies and call ups to get them through.

With the trade deadline of August 1 coming up rapidly, the Dodgers have some decisions to make. They need to make some moves to upgrade the pitching staff but may be limited at their potential options. However, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com listed some pitching options and named LA as a top landing spot for a former All-Star.

Feinsand listed LA as a suitor for Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito. Giolito holds an ERA of 3.54 in 15 games. He has posted 89 strikeouts over 86.1 innings and he could be a piece that Chicago looks to move.

"Giolito has pitched to a 3.14 ERA in nine starts since the beginning of May, including a 1.50 ERA in his first three June outings, but the White Sox came into the week 11 games under .500. They will have some difficult decisions to make -- for instance, do they trade controllable arms such as Dylan Cease and/or Michael Kopech? Giolito will be a free agent at the end of the season, making it a near certainty that he will be wearing a new uniform by August."

Per MLB.com

With Giolito being a free agent at the end of the season, the price for him may not be overly high. He could be seen as a rental for teams and the White Sox would be better off trading him for something rather than possibly losing him for nothing. This is where the Dodgers come in.

Giolito is from Southern California so he would surely welcome a return home. He could improve the starting rotation and give them another solid option to use, even after the injured starters come back.

The biggest thing that this Dodgers rotation needs is stability. Giolito could provide them with that and more. He would be a great option for the team to go after and maybe they pick some others off the White Sox roster as well.

The team has some big choices to make as the deadline approaches but making sure to upgrade the pitching staff must be at the forefront.
