San Francisco Giants Skipper Discusses What Got Him Tossed From Game

More frustration was evident from the San Francisco Giants manager when he was ejected from the game during their latest loss.

The San Francisco Giants have had some issues producing runs this season, and it's a major reason why they sat at 5-9 entering Saturday's slate of games.

Their new manager Bob Melvin has already voiced his frustration with what has been going on, and that came to a boiling point during their 2-1 loss on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.

It was not a great showing during a winnable game to open their Florida stretch. This is going to be a major tell if the Giants are going to be competing for a playoff spot in the National League or not.

Melvin was ejected during the game against the Rays in the top of the seventh inning for arguing balls and strikes with the home plate umpire.

He explained what he was arguing when speaking with reporters.

"That it was a ball to Soler. He's been calling top of the zone the whole game, and he called that one, which has not been called. It looked like it was way below the zone in that situation. For me, it was pretty egregious," he said according to Taylor Wirth of NBC Sports Bay Area.

San Francisco's skipper was already upset after the new obstruction ruling came into play during the bottom of the third.

Amed Rosario doubled home the leading run before attempting to stretch it out to a triple. It looked like he was thrown out by a mile, but third baseman Matt Chapman was said to have obstructed the base runner's ability to slide into the bag cleanly.

This is a new emphasis by Major League Baseball that was put into effect prior to this season, and there were already some rumblings that this might cause some issues.

Melvin clearly took objection to the call, telling reporters, "... I guess he's supposed to jump out of the way, I don't know. It looked like he was out pretty easily. It's the first time we've seen it called like that."

That was far from the reason why the Giants lost, however.

Their inability to score runs was the real catalyst to why they dropped another game, even though they had base runners throughout the entire contest.

Maybe this is an old tactical trick used by the veteran manager to get his team focused and ready to perform so they can put together a solid showing on this six-game road trip before heading back home.
